School Daze – The Comedies (Part 3)

Right, time to haul out the mop and dust this blog off again (er… well, you know what I mean). I know I’ve been an absent landlord lately, but luckily, I have been building up a list of things to write about, even though 2009 hasn’t been the best year for new series. Still, hopefully those who read me (hi, Mum!) are still around. To make up for lost time, this is probably going to be a long post.

So with that said, let me venture forth back into semi-familiar territory – the classroom. Or should that be the clubroom?

Impressions: Appleseed Ex Machina

Typical. Not 2 posts ago I said something along the lines of “one day I’ll blather on about artwork, but not now” and here I find myself about to ‘review’ (although that is probably too lofty a word to use) something that is going to require me to blather on about artwork.

Does that make me a lying filth? Probably, so let me move on to the topic under discussion instead…

Impressions: What’s been on my screen lately (Feb edition)

Well, having survived another St David’s Day weekend (a bit like St Patrick’s Day, but us Welsh tend to be much quieter when we’re drunk), I was faced with the unenviable task of either finishing off ‘Nosebleed’ (which will remain as a work in progress for now; methinks I’ve created a monster there), or kicking my brain into gear and coming up with something original.

So, after staring at this little white input box for ages (whilst consuming two cups of strong, black coffee) I thought I’d fill you in on some of what I’ve been watching this month. I know, it’s probably not the most earth-shattering blog posting you’ll ever read, but it gives me something to do, and who knows… you might see something you’ll like.

Impressions: The Diary of Tortov Roddle

I’ll be the first to admit that (especially once you reach my age) you have to wade through an awful lot of cr@p in animedom to find what’s good – and even then people’s ideas of what’s good or not can differ (some friends still raise an eyebrow at what I consider good… well, watchable anyway, but that’s a seifuko thing – there, I said it.)

However, every now and again, the world of anime throws up a gem. Strangely these often tend to be obscure and little-known outside (and sometimes even inside) Japan – probably because they haven’t appealed to the thousands of fanboys and -girls out there, like other more mainstream (and dare I say brainless) shows.

Such a gem is The Diary of Tortov Roddle…
